A Milestone Surveillance XXV software package can be used for the small but advanced installation, right up to the very large and complex surveillance installation. The XXV software is based on a dedicated high performance image database with recovery options in case of database problems (e.g. caused by power failure). The image database allows daily archiving, for ease of backup and an advanced resizing feature will ensure continuous recording in the case of low disk space.

All important system messages are shown on the screen, written into log-files and optionally sent via e-mail and/or SMS. The user interface supports a maximum of 64 simultaneously visible cameras. A user customizable screen layout is provided and a HotSpot window can be included. The HotSpot window shows an enlarged camera view, just by clicking the smaller camera view. If using the dual-screen setup, the recordings browser, shown on the second screen, can be put into HotSpot mode, giving you an even bigger view (3/4 screen). Besides video recording, the XXV software package also offers recording of sound over the network. When watching live images, it is possible to enable the sound and thereby getting an even more powerful surveillance.

Milestone XXV offers motion-controlled recording. This means that only recordings with motion are saved. This feature is based on advanced motion detection with an exclude filter for image areas of no interest. Alerts on motion detection and events can be given through sound, SMS, E-mail and activation of output ports on devices. (e.g. turn on light).
